The Highfield Centre Activities
The children will be encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities in order to generalise the skills that have been taught at the one-to-one level.
All activities at the Centre are included in the fees, however parents are expected to take responsibility for the arrangement and payment of after-school activities.
Group Activities
These include circle time activities, play time games, gross motor skills activities, group games and observational learning.
Fine Motor Development
This will give your child the chance to experiment with different textures and manipulate simple materials whilst learning to be creative.
Computers
Computers are used by all children today and are used in all educational and therapeutic settings. They can be used to teach children new skills and to help generalisation.
Shadowing Outside Events
There are many outside activities available and different places to go where children can practise generalisation. For example, you can go to the supermarket to generalise two-dimension and three-dimension matching skills.
Shadowing Child's Participation In Different Clubs
Many children like to go to after-school clubs, swimming, Rainbows or Beavers etc. At the Highfield Centre, we can offer to shadow your child at their club to enable them to get the most out of the activity.
Saturday Mornings
On a Saturday morning, parents have the option of a therapist from the Centre coming to work at the child's home with the child. Saturday mornings can be provided for children who are attending school for a large number of hours, and who need to keep up their hours of one-to-one therapy.
Saturday mornings can be used to ensure that the child is generalising skills learned at the Centre and School to the home environment. This will give parents the opportunity of some support in dealing with any difficulties they may be experiencing with the child's behaviour at home.
While we will try to provide Saturday mornings as parents request it, the Centre already provides 40 hours therapy Monday to Friday. Where there is difficulty, for example, due to staff holidays or sickness, priority for Saturdays will be given to children who are attending school for a large number of hours.
