A Day at the Highfield Centre
09:00
Children arrive accompanied by a parent or carer. Children will be welcomed at the front door and settled in by a member of staff. This is an important "hand over" time, when parents can mention any concerns that they have. All parents or carers must sign their child in. Staff members will ensure that no child leaves the premises unaccompanied. A register will be taken before lunch to check that all the children are present.
09:00-12:30
Children will receive one-to-one ABA teaching with a trained member of staff (therapist), and when it has been identified in the programme, with two members of staff. There will also be opportunity for children to work in small groups with a higher ratio of staff. An ABA Consultant will provide the consultancy and structure of the clinical programme. The curriculum will be adapted according to each child's needs and abilities. The Centre will provide all of the necessary equipment.
During this time, children will have a mid-morning break fully supervised by therapists. Parents will be expected to supply mid-morning snacks for their child.
12:30-13:30
Lunchtime. Parents will need to provide pre-packed lunches for their child. All meal times will take place alongside therapists in the dining room. The children will also have a fully supervised break time after lunch.
13:30-17:00
Children will continue with their ABA programmes, as detailed above. Where appropriate, children will receive group teaching, working on such skills as circle time skills, observational learning, taking part in role-play and group games and will learn to generalise the skills they have learned.
17:00
Parent or carer arrives at the reception area to collect and sign their child out. At this point, written "hand over" information will be given to the parents, detailing the child's performance that day.
16:00-18:00
There will be provision for therapists to support children, one-to-one, at after-school clubs, activities and play sessions with friends.
